Oh I know - I just recently ordered a Mac off of www.amazon.com. I was amazed by their unneeded packaging. The styrofoam made me sick. It doesn't make sense, too. The companies would spend less if they cut back on buying and making packaging. I can understand how companies need their product to be safely shipped to their customers - but some packaging is ridiculus. I am going to email amazon complaining about their packaging - but I'm not sure I can make much of a diference. If anyone wants to join me - go right ahead.

I absolutely agree with you - too much of packaging ends up in landfills. It's gross. There are so many ways to make either eco friendly packaging - or just cut back. But those big companies have a lot of money, and are lazy. They should definately know that cutting back would earn them some publicity, too. Please write back - maybe we could protest amazon together :)

We are surrounded by products which are design to enrich our lives. All to often, these products are packaeged in multiple layers of packaging. These layes often combine plastic, paper, and card.
Why do manufacturers and retailers find it necessary to have so much packaging? We are sure that consumers would like to see less packaging. Remember, you as a consumer pay for the packaging. If the manufacturers reduced the packaging, by default, the product would cost less. And weight of the additional packaging adds to the shipping cost. Manufacturers can make things cost less by becoming more 'green'.
This packaging al too often ends up in our landfills, as not all of it is recycable, and there are not enough enough uses or manufacturers which can re-use all packaging materials. THis means to the landfill site.
In the Metro Vancouver area, municipalities are looking at charging for garbage. This is a growing global pattern.
Do you think there should be less packaging? Would you purchase products with less packaging? Would you like a choice?
